Wednesday full backs Reda Johnson and Lewis Buxton are on the comeback trail.
The injury-hit duo figured in a 2-1 win against Notts County in a private game at Middlewood.
Johnson played for 45 minutes, Buxton for an hour, and the team included four players who were trialists for the development squad.
Manager Dave Jones told The Star last night: “Reda and Lewis both said they came through ok. We’ll have a look at them tomorrow and go from there.”
The Owls boss is keen to get the pair back in the first team.
Another assessment of their fitness will determine whether or not they can be plunged into the match at Leeds on Saturday.
Jones may be tempted to play them but he will also weigh the risk of bringing them back prematurely and seeing them break down.
Johnson hit a snag last season after a comeback. He has been out this summer with a new ankle injury, while Buxton has suffered a shin problem and illness.
