Sheffield Wednesday head coach Stuart Gray concedes his side are suffering “a blip” in form but is confident they will regroup quickly.

Hillsborough defeats to Wigan Athletic and Derby County have halted the Owls’ march up the Championship table.

Now Gray is demanding an instant response from his players when they travel to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

“It is a bit of a blip,” admitted Gray. “It’s back-to-back defeats and we haven’t scored, but we didn’t get that bit of luck in front of goal versus Derby.

“We have got to get out of this slump. We have to dust ourselves down and go again against Huddersfield. We have to get back on the winning trail.”

Given Wednesday entertain Charlton Athletic in the fifth round of the FA Cup next Monday, Gray is expected to rotate his squad this weekend. There is the tantalising possibility of a Steel City derby in the quarter-finals of the tournament should the Owls defeat Charlton but Gray has told his squad to focus on their league programme.

“The players know if they start drifting off and looking elsewhere that they will be out of the side,” said Gray.
