Talented forward Jacques Maghoma believes all the pressure is on Brighton and Hove Albion ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s trip to the Amex Stadium.
It promises to be a stern test for the Owls as the Seagulls have qualified for the Championship play-offs in each of the last two seasons.
Maghoma told The Star: “We know it’s going to be tough at Brighton. We are the away team and are probably the underdog. That will give us a little extra to prove people wrong so hopefully we can go to Brighton and get a positive result.
“The pressure is all on them. They will probably be expected to win because they are the home side but we are going to make it as difficult as we can for them.”
One victory from the opening 16 league fixtures cost Dave Jones his job last term and Maghoma admits it’s imperative the team get off to a positive start.
“It is important we start well,” he said. “That gives you confidence. The more confident we are, the better we will play.
“Everyone has worked hard in pre-season. Nobody has slacked off. We’ve all done our work and got our base of fitness. We’ve played some good football. Hopefully we will have more highs than lows this year.”
The DR Congo international is urging the Owls to become more consistent.
Maghoma said: “We weren’t consistent enough last season. We beat Leeds 6-0 but then would lose at places like Yeovil and Doncaster. We were 3-1 up at Nottingham Forest and ended up drawing the game.
“We need to see games out better and hopefully we will have learned from what happened last year.”
