In-form Owls star Jeremy Helan still has a lot to learn, according to head coach Stuart Gray.

The Frenchman is expected to line-up at left-back against Wolves at Hillsborough tomorrow, having produced a string of eye-catching performances.

Joe Mattock, Helan’s main rival for the full-back position, is fit again after shrugging off an ankle ligament problem. But Gray is likely to keep faith with Helan, who moved into the centre of midfield in Saturday’s 2-1 triumph over Blackburn after Lewis McGugan went off injured, when his side go head-to-head with 13th-placed Wolves.

Gray has described Helan’s displays as “excellent” but warned the former Manchester City youngster that he can ill-afford to let his standards drop.

“Jeremy is very quick; not many people are going to beat him in a footrace,” the Wednesday chief told The Star. “We’ve converted him from a left winger to a left back. It’s a learning curve for Jeremy. What he probably needs to learn is the reading of the game so he’s not going flat out all the time.”

Jose Semedo is vying with Kieran Lee to partner McGugan in the middle of the park, having served a one-match suspension.
