Owls ace Jose Semedo is edging closer to a one-match suspension.

The Portuguese midfielder collected his fourth booking of the season in Saturday’s goalless home draw with Norwich City. Semedo was also cautioned against Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.

One more yellow card between now and November 30 will see Semedo, who has played 15 times this campaign, ruled out for a match. Given his combative style, it seems inevitable the 29-year-old will be banned at some point.

Sheffield Wednesday have five Championship fixtures before the next cut off point - Charlton Athletic, Bournemouth, Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic.

Skipper Glenn Loovens, Chris Maguire and Joe Mattock have already served bans for picking up five yellow cards this season.

Although Sam Hutchinson is sidelined for the foreseeable future with a knee injury, Owls boss Stuart Gray is not short of cover in the centre of midfield. He has Giles Coke, Paul Corry and Rhys McCabe waiting in the wings.

Semedo is good friends with two-time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo. The duo spent time together at Sporting Lisbon’s academy as teenagers and have stayed in touch ever since.

Speaking to The Star last week, Semedo said the Real Madrid superstar plans on attending a Wednesday home match this season.

“He is very keen to come and watch a game,” he said. “Cristiano wants to come and watch me play.

“I have told him all our fans would love to see him here. The fans keep asking me about him.”
