Atdhe Nuhiu is confident the Owls’ return to top flight will come sooner than most people expect.
While Wednesday’s strong start to the season has seen expectations over their ultimate finish raise slightly, Nuhiu is refusing to rule out a promotion push during the current campaign.
“I think I can play in the Premier League with Sheffield Wednesday,” he said.
“I don’t just say this, I believe it.
“It’s a massive club and should be in the Premier League.
“This year, the season has just started and we need to look at it game by game.
“But the way we are playing now, it’s really good – everyone can see that.
“What is going to happen in the end, we will see.
“But there is belief this club can be back again in the Premier League, this year or in a few years.
“If it keeps going like we’re going now, it will be sooner than people think.”
If the Owls are to make a realistic push for a top six finish, they must convert impressive form into wins, particularly at Hillsborough, where they have failed to pick up three points so far.
Pressed for a reason as to why Wednesday are struggling for wins on home turf, Nuhiu admitted he had no answer.
He said: “I can’t really explain because our performances at home have been impressive.
“Against Millwall we were unlucky to concede a last-second equaliser and against Forest it was really disappointing to lose.
“After the Forest game supporters clapped us and I think that showed what sort of performance we put in.
“Sometimes football is not fair, but we know how to deal with it.
“We have made ten points from our away games and now it is time to get three points at Hillsborough.
“We know everybody is waiting for that and we are too.
“We need to get the three points for the supporters.”
The Owls are set to play in front of a bumper crowd at Hillsborough this afternoon after supporters took advantage of a ticket deal for the clash with Reading.
