SHEFFIELD Wednesday have signed Slovenia international midfielder Nejc Pecnik subject to international clearance.

Pecnik has put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Hillsborough and will join the Owls on their pre-season tour of Portugal this week.

The 26-year-old is a versatile winger who can play down either flank. He can also operate up front.

He said: “Sheffield Wednesday is a club of great tradition and I am delighted to sign.

“The deal was done really quickly after a trial at the club and it was an easy agreement to make the deal.

“My goal is to show myself in a good way for Sheffield Wednesday and build on the experience I already have.”

Pecnik began his career with hometown club NK Dravograd before moving to Slovenian top-flight side NK Celje.

He was Celje’s leading marksman during the 2007-08 campaign with 14 league goals and moved to Czech outfit Sparta Prague on loan the following summer.

The wideman returned to Celje before joining Portugese side CD Nacional in the spring of 2009.

Owls boss Dave Jones said: “This is a good signing for us. Nejc came over for a trial and we liked what we saw.

“He is a versatile lad, he has experience and is an international player. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
