Lewis McGugan is urging his Wednesday teammates to embrace Carlos Carvalhal’s footballing philosophy in their quest to figure in the Championship promotion race.
Head coach Carvalhal has promised Wednesdayites an exciting brand of football and is set to put his players through their paces in Portugal this week.
Carvalhal and his backroom team, consisting of João Mário, João Cunha and Bruno Lage, have introduced new training methods as they search for a winning formula.
And McGugan, recruited for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £300,000, from Watford last Thursday, is calling on the squad to adapt to Carvalhal’s style of play.
“I have only had a couple of sessions since coming back to the club but he [Carvalhal] is very set on what he wants to do and how he puts his instructions out,” said the midfielder. “We, as a team, have got to buy into that and help him as much as possible and do our best to make that transition as easy as possible.
“With the games we have got coming up, we need to keep trying to do the right things and look to implement his ideas.”
