Keiren Westwood says keeping Glenn Loovens and Jose Semedo should be high on the list of priorities for the Owls this summer.
Both men are among 16 players out of contract at the end of the season and the Wednesday keeper feels they should be tied down to longer deals.
Loovens has been out of action since January with an ankle injury and various niggles have limited Semedo’s playing time over the last few months of the season.
And Westwood says the pair’s value has been highlighted during the time out of the team.
“They’re big characters in our dressing room,” Westwood told the Star.
“Obviously they’re our captain and vice-captain and it’s tough to lose two big personalities and two first team players.
“I would like to see Glenn and Jose signed up for next season. I’d like to see them all signed up but that’s nothing to do with me.
“I just thing the lads have proved over the course of the season that they deserve contracts.
“The lads who came in when Glenn and Jose were out have done great.
“It just shows you need a squad to do anything in this league.”
Westwood says the Owls have to aim higher next season and has called for strong action in the transfer window.
He said: “We have got a real solid base to build on and we have got to look up.
“Hopefully we will have a good summer in the transfer market.
“Things are looking very positive so long may that continue.”
