DAVE Jones is looking for his Wednesday team to sharpen up against West Brom at Hillsborough today (kick-off 3pm).
The Owls manager believes that a further week’s training and preparation will have helped the players to improve what he described as a “dull” cutting edge at Doncaster.
“This game will be like the others we’ve had - another tough one,” he said. “We want to see if the things we have done in training this week can be put into practice.
“We want to win, but it’s not the be all and end all.”
The Owls missed a few chances at the Keepmoat Stadium in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw and sometimes lacked a telling final ball.
Jones says: “I think we were a bit leggy. It was our third game in six days and there was the travelling involved in the Portugal trip. We kept a clean sheet but we looked a bit dull in front of goal.
“We’ve had a full week since then and now we’re looking for an improvement in the fitness.”
This will be the club’s penultimate friendly before the season starts - the final one is away to Kilmarnock on Wednesday.
Jones said that whatever line-up he puts out today, it can change beween now and the Championship trip to Derby County on August 18.
There will also be changes to the team that drew at Doncaster: “There will be one or two I’ll leave out; we’ve had a hard week’s training.”
Apart from Chris Brunt, West Brom have a fully fit squad.
They drew 0-0 at Barnsley last Saturday, after beating Copenhagen 3-0 and losing 1-0 to Malmo in friendlies in Scandinavia.
Argentinian midfield player Claudio Yacob, signed from Racing Club, is set for a debut.
