Hillsborough favourite Reda Johnson is in contention to feature in next week’s pre-season friendly with Glasgow Rangers.
Along with Kieran Lee (hip), Johnson has not travelled to Portugal for the Owls week-long pre-season training camp and is currently receiving treatment for a fresh ankle problem.
Dave Jones, the Sheffield Wednesday manager, has told The Star he hopes Johnson’s knock will quickly clear up and believes the Benin international may play some part against Rangers on Wednesday July 24. “There is a chance Reda could feature against Rangers,” said Jones, who is expected to have another look at trialists Kamil Zayatte and Markus Grossinger in this Saturday’s warm-up match with Hull City. “It’s tendonitis that he’s got and he’s just resting it and getting a bit of treatment for it at the moment.”
With Johnson unavailable, Jones has played Rafa Floro and Joe Mattock in the left-back position in Wednesday’s friendlies.
