JERMAINE Johnson believes that the current Wednesday side is one of the best he has seen in his time at the club.

The exciting winger says that the Owls have enough quality and confidence to be a major force in the Championship.

He is also pleased with his own fortunes, for he has shown some top form in the first two League games and feels he is benefiting from having had an injury-free pre-season.

“I’ve been here a long time; this is one of the best teams I’ve been in,” said the 32-year-old who was signed five years ago from Bradford for £500,000

“Everyone has confidence and wants to play and win for the club,” he added. “I think it’s a good chance for us to do well this season.

“I feel I have started the season well. I’m feeling really fit.”

He missed the start of the last two seasons after being injured in the final pre-season games, against Doncaster one year and Stoke the next.

“I missed two and half months the first time, one and a half months the second; this season I have started without injury,” he said. “The pre-season has worked really well for me.

“I feel really good. When I went out against Birmingham on Tuesday, I felt as if I could get two or three goals - I got one, which was good.”

Johnson showed flair and workrate in the draw at Derby and the win against Birmimgham, and is upbeat about today’s clash with Millwall: “Every game, I want to win. I don’t think about losing. I think we’re going to get another result. We just need to keep focused.”

He feels that the style of

play encouraged by Dave Jones has been a benefit. “We play more football. That’s what makes us look much better. We used to bang the ball up the centre-forwards; now we keep it,” he said. “We’re not scared to keep it. That’s good for the team.”

JJ also accepts the point made by Jones that sometimes he should pass instead of shooting. “Sometimes I go all the way myself and when I’m on the pitch I think it’s right,” he said. “But when I come off and think about it, it’s wrong. I have to get my head up more and look for players who are in better spaces.”

Overall Jones is pleased with his form: “JJ’s got a new lease of life. He looks fresh and strong, He’s worked really hard,” he said.
