THE desire of Sheffield Wednesday’s fans proved a powerfully persuasive influence on their ‘wanted man’ Michail Antonio.
The speedy winger finally completed his six-figure move from Reading yesterday after a medical and he travels with the squad today for tomorrow’s game at Kilmarnock.
He is assured of a huge reception from the Owls fans at that game and the 21-year-old admitted they had played a major part in his returning to Hillsborough.
“Their desire and encouragement, last season and this summer, urging me to sign, has played a massive part in the move,” said Antonio.
“I want to thank them for their support. I’ve been waiting what seems a long time. Last season, winning promotion was something I won’t ever forget.
“Now, I’m so pleased to be here and I can focus on a career at Wednesday and having success in The Championship.”
No fee was disclosed but Wednesday’s last unsuccessful bid was believed to be around £700,000.
Antonio, whose debut on loan last season was in the Hillsborough derby win over the Blades in February, has signed a four-year deal.
Meanwhile, Chris Lines has had scans on his groin injury and Wednesday will have a better idea in the next 24 hours how long he’ll be sidelined for.
He was injured in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with West Brom.
