Jeremy Helan’s goal gave Wednesday a 1-0 win at Scunthorpe only a day after he was signed from Manchester City.
The speedy left winger struck in the 41st minute, firing across goal from the left and into the far bottom corner.
Sub Chris Maguire hit the post, Miguel Llera brushed the top of the bar with a free kick. and Jermaine Johnson put an opportunity over the bar.
Scunthorpe had two clear-cut chances: midfielder Matt Sparrow and striker Matt Godden missed the target from close range.
Michail Antonio went off in the 50th minute but manager Dave Jones said that it was nothing to worry about, just a kick on the toe.
Jones and Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws were both satisified with a good workout.
