Royston Drenthe has arrived at Hillsborough with a clean slate according to Owls boss Stuart Gray.
The Dutch winger has endured some troubled times during his career - starting after his €14million switch to Real Madrid - and was exiled by parent club Reading before his loan switch to Wednesday.
But Gray says past issues will have no bearing on Drenthe during Owls stay.
“People look at Royston and ask how it’s possible to drop from a big money move to Real Madrid to not even having a squad number at Reading,” Gray said.
“Obviously there’s been a few issues he’s had at Reading but he has a fresh chance with us now he is here.
“This move shows he’s willing to get off his backside.
“Maybe Reading’s loss can be our gain.”
Head coach Gray has been pleased with what he has seen from the 27-year-old in training so far and is confident Drenthe has the desire to get his career back on track.
He said: “When I look into his eyes, he looks a very hungry player.
“He’s a good age with good experience but now he’s got to do it out on the pitch because anyone can talk a good game.”
