Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a new contract with first-team coach Stuart Gray.

Manager Dave Jones is pleased that Gray will be staying after the impact that he made last season.

Gray’s future has been one of the issues that needed to be resolved this summer besides the contract affairs of six players.

But the 53-year-old is back with the Owls as preparations for next season get under way.

Jones always wanted to continue the partnership that the two enjoyed when he was boss at Wolves and Southampton.

The Wednesday manager also revealed earlier this month that Gray himself was in favour of staying and the outcome depended on negotiations with chairman Milan Mandaric and vice-chairman Paul Aldridge.

Agreement has been reached but the length of any contract has yet to be revealed.

Gray’s arrival at Hillsborough in December on a short-term deal coincided with an improvement in results.

But Jones has always insisted that success in the fight against relegation was down to a team effort by the players and the staff, which includes assistant manager Paul Wilkinson and goalkeeping coach Andy Rhodes.

Gray’s initial engagement was for the remainder of last season.
