Stuart Gray, the Owls head coach, has challenged top-scorer Atdhe Nuhiu to repeat his influential second half performance against Rotherham United on a consistent basis.

Nuhiu claimed his 10th goal of the campaign as the Owls twice came-from-behind to record a 3-2 victory at the Millers last weekend.

Gray has likened the lanky striker to former England international Peter Crouch. Nuhiu is similar to the tall Stoke City centre-forward in that they are both more gifted with the ball at their feet than competing for headers.

Another major string to Nuhiu’s bow, according to Gray, is that the opposition sometimes position two or three defenders near him to combat his threat, resulting in more space being created for his teammates.

“When Attey is up there, he realises he’s got to be a focal point and we’ve got to have ball retention and try and make it stick,” said Gray. “I worked with Peter Crouch and the problem is when you are that size is that you have two or three players around you because managers front screen you and that creates space for us elsewhere.

“The header Attey got against Rotherham was fantastic and he is disappointed he didn’t get a second goal.

“His second half performance was a lot better. I’m not taking anything away from Attey but he needs to do that for 90 minutes.

“Atdhe has got to realise he’s only going to score goals from inside the box.”
