Chris Maguire hopes that Wednesday’s search for a prolific scorer does not mean that his first-team days are numbered.

He also believes that he can improve on his tally for this season if he gets even more opportunities in the side.

Maguire’s 10-goal haul from only 27 starts made him one of the successes of the Owls’ campaign. He also scored twice while on loan at Coventry.

“I enjoyed it; I wish I had a few more goals,” he said. “I’ve got 12 over the season which I think is acceptable for the amount of games I played. If I had a full season, then who knows, I might have scored more.

“I’m just pleased to get back in the team and show people what I can do. I’ll worked hard during the summer and come back ready to go.

“The manager knows me well. Hopefully I’ll stay in his plans, in the way I have been since January.

“The main thing next season will be to get in the starting line-up. Then it will be a case of trying to score as many goals as I’ve got this season, then hopefully getting even more than that.”

Boss Stuart Gray has said he wants to bring in a 20-goal striker.
