IT MAY only be a pre-season friendly to the Owls at Kilmarnock on August 8 but to James Fowler it is the climax to his testimonial programme.

Events have been running since last August after the midfield player was awarded the testimonial to mark his long service.

The 31-year-old has now made more than 400 appearances for the Scottish Premier League outfit over the last 13 years.

He has been a one-club man and will be staying even longer as he has signed a new two-year deal.

Fowler helped Killie win the Scottish League Cup this season - they beat Celtic 1-0 in the final.

His testimonial events over the last year have included golf days, dinners and a race night.

He made his debut as a sub against Motherwell in August, 1999.

The friendly against Wednesday will come a week before the Owls begin the season with a first-round tie in the Capital One Cup - the new name for the League Cup.

The visit to Scotland will also come four days after the Hillsborough showpiece friendly against West Brom, the former club of Owls assistant manager Terry Burton.

Wednesday have yet to confirm the opposition for one of two July friendlies in Portugal; the other will be against Reading.
