Big target man Atdhe Nuhiu has today joined Sheffield Wednesday on a three-year deal, subject to international clearance.

The 23-year-old striker, who began his career at SV Ried, becomes the Championship club’s fourth summer signing. Owls boss Dave Jones has already recruited Jacques Maghoma, Rafa Floro and Jeremy Helan during the close season.

Standing at 6ft 6ins tall, Nuhiu left SV Ried and headed to Wels where he notched 11 goals in 30 appearances in the 2007/08 campaign.

The highly-regarded forward eventually ended up at Rapid Vienna in 2010. In the same year, he was on target in each leg of their Europa League tie with Aston Villa.

Nuhiu, who has represented Austria at Under-21 level, spent last season on loan with Turkish outfit Eskişehirspor. He recently had a trial spell at Crystal Palace and scored in their friendly with Dagenham and Redbridge last weekend.

Nuhiu said: “I have had interest from Sheffield Wednesday for some time but as a professional footballer, you talk to other clubs, this is natural.

“But this club always felt right for me, it feels comfortable and I am very happy to be here.

“I am a typical box player and if I get the service I can score the goals.

“Sheffield Wednesday is a strong name throughout Europe and I am looking forward to starting training and playing with my new club.”
