Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri has asked Owls fans to throw their full support behind Carlos Carvalhal, the Portuguese who was finally appointed Wednesday’s new head coach yesterday.

After weeks of speculation, Carvalhal’s appointment was finally confirmed late last night.

And in a message to Owls supporters, Chansiri said: “Thank you so much for supporting us in everything we have tried to do for Sheffield Wednesday in the short time we have been here and also for the exciting times we will share in the future.

“Please give everything for Carlos and the team because your support is everything, as is your trust, and I am now only looking forward to the journey we will be sharing together.

“Everyone has been so incredibly welcoming and friendly to myself and my family, which makes me even more determined to deliver the success our supporters deserve. We need the spirit and full backing from them all because we are all on that same journey. I believe in our supporters 100 per cent, I trust in them, and all I ask is to have that same trust and confidence in return.”

Meanwhile, versatile defender Vincent Sasso is itching to get started after completing his move to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls strengthened their backline by capturing the 24-year-old on a season-long loan deal from Portuguese outfit Sporting Clube de Braga yesterday. Sasso, who can be deployed at right-back or centre-back, passed a medical on Monday and, should he impress, Wednesday have an option to make the transfer permanent. He is contracted to Braga until 2017.

The Frenchman posted on Twitter: “I guess it’s now official! Really happy and proud to join @swfc. Thanks for all the messages, can’t wait to start this adventure!”

Sasso, who has represented France at youth level from Under-16s through to the U21s, is in contention to face his former club later this month as the Owls are set to lock horns with Braga in a pre-season friendly as part of their five-day warm-weather training in Portugal.
