Sheffield Wednesday have picked up something of an unlikely backer in their quest for promotion, with Steve Evans tipping the Owls to be among the title hopefuls this season.
The former Rotherham United and Leeds United boss has never been shy in his attempts at winding up Wednesday fans, nor showing delight in trying to get one over on them over the years.
However, speaking on Sky Sports News HQ, previewing the Championship season ahead, Evans said he felt that Carlos Carvalhal's side will be one of three teams battling it out to finish on top of the table.
"I think for me, the league has transformed this year when you look at the size of the clubs in it," said Evans. "I was very privileged last season to manage one of the, if not the biggest clubs in Leeds United but when you look at the likes of Newcastle coming in now and Aston Villa and Norwich City coming back now, it's a huge platform now.
"Newcastle United are certainly going to be up there and I think Norwich City will be up there too. But for me one of the other teams who will be up there will be Sheffield Wednesday.
"They would be the three that I can see fighting ultimately to be the champions."
