Jermaine Johnson will get an extra match tagged onto his ban for the sending-off against Barnsley.
It is the Jamaican winger’s second red card of the season and that will mean he gets an additional suspension. So he will start a four match ban when Sheffield Wednesday go to Reading on Saturday.
His previous dismissal was in the Capital One Cup defeat to Rotherham United at the New York Stadium in August.
Giles Coke will serve the second of his three match ban next Saturday.
Wednesday had their own disciplinary matters to deal with yesterday for they were required to reply by last night to the FA charge arising out of the fracas during the game at Millwall last Tuesday.
Both clubs were charged with “failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour”.
Meanwhile, the club face an anxious wait over their further pursuit of Connor Wickham.
Stuart Gray remains confident he can bring the striker back but he has been in Sunderland’s squad the past two games.
