CONNOR Wickham has been denied his wish of continued match action after the end of his Sheffield Wednesday loan.
He been restricted to two brief appearances from the bench for Sunderland and England Under 21s.
But he could get a longer run-out when the Under 21s play Austria at Brighton on Monday.
Wednesday wanted to keep the 19-year-old for the rest of the season but Sunderland wanted him back because they were short of strikers.
“Wherever I am, I just want to playing,” he said after scoring on his final Wednesday apppearance.
He played as an 83rd minute sub in Sunderland’s 1-1 draw with Norwich on Sunday, and went on in the 87th minute of England’s 3-0 win at Wycombe on Thursday, as a replacement for Wifried Zaha.
Wickham has scored four goals in five appearances for Stuart Pearce’s side.
