Owls midfield player Rhys McCabe has made a loan move to League Two club Portsmouth, who are managed by former Hillsborough striker Richie Barker.
McCabe, aged 21, has been unable to hold down a midfield place in the Wednesday side this season and has joined Pompey for the rest of the campaign.
The Owls strengthened their midfield by signing Sam Hutchinson and Adedeji Oshilaja, and Kieran Lee and David Prutton have recovered from injuries.
Growing midfield options led to Gary Gardner being sent back to Aston Villa at the end of his loan.
Barker said: “We were eager to bring Rhys in when we knew he was available because he’s a quality player who will help keep possession in the centre of the park.
“He hasn’t been in the Sheffield Wednesday side recently and is hungry to play. He jumped at the chance to come here, which is a good sign.”
Milan Mandaric was chairman at Pompey and they have thanked him and the Owls for their help in getting the deal completed.
