some of the players who helped the Owls to win promotion will learn today whether or not they are to be retained as their contracts get set to expire this summer.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones also revealed that the club have made an inquiry to Reading about loan star Michail Antonio but nothing has been decided yet.
The Owls manager, at the Town Hall reception last night, said: “The ones who are out of contract I will see and decide whether we’re going to retain them.
“There are always difficult decisions, certainly when you’ve just won promotion; there’s going to be a lot of elation, but there’s also going to be dejection because not everybody will be kept. That’s just the way of the football world. If the club want to move forward, we have to bring players in.”
Clinton Morrison, Stephen Bywater, Mark Beevers, Richard O’Donnell, Arron Jameson, Chris Sedgwick, Jermaine Johnson and Jon Otsemobor are out of contract this summer.
On Antonio, Jones said: “We have made contact with Reading but nobody’s going to make decisions yet. Why should they?
“If it was me, and anyone was after my players or I’d got loan players, I wouldn’t make a decision now.
“Everybody’s got to take stock, see where they’re going and what they can bring in.”
Jones added: “At the moment it’s about enjoying the occasion.”
All the players leave for a break in Spain today but Jones and his staff will be in for the rest of the week to make plans for next season.
