Tough tackling Owls midfielder Jose Semedo is set to find out this afternoon whether his three-match suspension for his sending off at Bolton Wanderers will be upheld.

Semedo was controversially shown a straight red card in Saturday’s draw at the Reebok Stadium for a tackle on Jay Spearing, a decision which Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones felt Premier League referee Chris Foy got wrong.

The Star understands the Football Association received the Owls appeal yesterday and will deliver their verdict today.

If the club’s appeal is unsuccessful, Semedo will serve a three-game ban for serious foul play, starting with Saturday’s trip to fellow strugglers Barnsley. He would also be forced to sit out the match with Reading, at home, and at Derby County next month. Semedo was in tears as he trudged off the pitch.

Jones said: “Hopefully the referee will look at it again and reverse the decision.”

With David Prutton unlikely to be available for selection until the end of November, Liam Palmer, Rhys McCabe and Paul Corry are Jones’ options for the midfield vacancy should Semedo’s suspension stand.
