They may have earned back-to-back 3-0 wins but Carlos Carvalhal feels the international break has come at the ideal time for his Sheffield Wednesday side.

With seven of Wednesday’s remaining eight games to come during April, Carvalhal is more concerned with having his squad in top condition than any loss of momentum the two-week break may bring.

“We have two weeks off so it’s a good time for us to recover some players who are playing more,” Carvalhal said.

“We can give more tempo to the guys who haven’t played as much.

“We will need all the players next month as we play seven games.

“It’s a good time for us to rest and try and improve the team.”

Carvalhal insists it will be equally as important to bring up to speed those players who have not featured many times as it will to ensure regulars have ample time to rest.

He said: “We will recover players over the international break and give more tempo to the guys who haven’t played as much.

“The players who have played a lot will have the opportunity to recover now.

“That is key and we will try to give tempo, timing and training to the players who haven’t been playing.

“They deserve to play but we can’t put 23 players in to play at the same. I trust in all of them.”
