Carlos Carvalhal admitted he was a little disappointed Sheffield Wednesday did not effectively seal a play-off place by beating Derby County.

Barry Bannan gave Wednesday the lead at the iPro Stadium before Derby substitute Darren Bent equalised with eight minutes to go.

While pleased with the result, the Owls' head coach said he could not shake a feeling of disappointment.

Carvalhal said: "If you talk about the marathon, the draw and a point here at Derby - a team more relaxed who have achieved a play-off place, the atmosphere enthusiastic about the achievement of the club - then I would say I was happy.

"And I am happy.

"But I am a little disappointed because if we win, we have achieved something important."

"During the 96 minutes we played, I think it was a good game, a balanced game with two good teams of the competition," he added.

"A game against one of the strongest teams in the competition and we did well.

"We played good football and I think we gave a fantastic image of Sheffield Wednesday, not just us, but the fans also.

"We are still running. Let us see what happens today with Bolton and Cardiff but next Saturday we have another game and the next Saturday we have another game.

"Let's see what at the end we achieve."

Cardiff City beat Bolton Wanderers thanks to an injury time penalty, cutting Wednesday's lead in sixth place down to four points heading into the meeting between the two sides at Hillsborough next weekend.

Carvalhal said he was pleased with Bannan's goal, another stunning strike to add to the collection of fine Wednesday goals this season.

"It was amazing," he said. "He scored another one similar to this one. It was fantastic.

"We have more chances to score and Keiren Westwood did some good defences today.

"It was a balanced game but of course we are happy with the goal.

"We are happy with our performance. We wanted to win but we are still happy with the point and the way we are running in this competition."
