Carlos Carvalhal has saluted Fernando Forestieri after the Owls striker continued his stellar scoring exploits in the Hillsborough draw with Ipswich Town.

Forestieri registered his third goal in his last five appearances, taking his tally to 15 for the season. He is the first Owls player to have reached that figure in the top two divisions since Mark Bright.

Head coach Carvalhal challenged the 26-year-old to have the best campaign of his career and Forestieri has duly delivered.

Since joining the Championship side in a £3 million deal from Watford last August, Forestieri has been a bit hit with Wednesday’s fans, producing a series of impressive performances.

“I am happy Fernando has helped the team and the team helped Fernando,” said Carvalhal.

“When we brought him to the club we knew what he could do and we challenged him to do the best season of his career and I think he is doing that.

“He is a fantastic player and I have been happy with him since the beginning.

“If you analyse our team, you can say all of them did very well.

“Sometimes the difference between good and excellent is score or not score goals. Not Just Fernando, but a lot of players are doing very well.

“The way we play, the players’ potential, allows the players to reach their maximum.

“It’s good for the players, I like it when they say they enjoy the way we play.”

Carvalhal freshened up his starting line-up, handing first-team recalls to Keiren Westwood, Jack Hunt, Glenn Loovens, Ross Wallace and Lucas Joao.

There is a strong possibility Carvalhal will rotate his squad again when they entertain MK Dons on Tuesday.

However, Aiden McGeady (hamstring) and Sam Hutchinson (glandular fever) are big doubts.
