Head coach Carlos Carvalhal is demanding his Sheffield Wednesday side maintain their focus in the club’s promotion quest.
The sixth-placed Owls host Brentford tomorrow looking to crank up the pressure on the Championship’s top two. Following an impressive sequence of results, Carvalhal’s only trail Hull City, who occupy the final automatic promotion spot, by six points.
Carvalhal, who has confirmed Keiren Westwood has recovered from neck/head injuries, said: “The best enemy of the coaches is victories. With victories, sometimes you relax and think everything is okay. We are trying to focus on the things we can improve and do better. You try to correct things when they are not perfect and this week has been fantastic. I believe that on Saturday we can do even better.”
The Portuguese chief says skipper Glenn Loovens will not be involved against the Bees due to an on-going groin problem.
“Glenn has played in the last few weeks with an injury,” said Carvalhal, who will check on Sam Hutchinson (knee) and Kieran Lee (back) before finalising his squad today. “We needed him to play because we didn’t have another centre-half at that moment.
“Now, because we have recovered some players, it’s the time for him to recover 100 per cent. I don’t believe he will be out for a long time.”
