owls keeper Stephen Bywater today signed a new one-year deal.
The club had expected that he would stay and he has now confirmed that the decision was a “no-brainer” for him.
“I was always going to sign, as soon as I knew of the offer,” he explained.
“This is the biggest club outside the Premiership.
“The last day of last season was the best atmosphere I have ever experienced in football, and I was proud to play a part in our promotion.
“The challenge now is to do well in the Championship, and if I didn’t think that was an option, I would not be here.”
The Owls signed former England keeper Chris Kirkland earlier in the summer.
Bywater added: “I know Chris really well from our days with the England youth team.
“He’s a nice lad and a good goalkeeper and I’m looking forward to working with him again.”
“We also have Nicky Weaver and Arron Jameson, so we are looking strong in that department.”
