Lewis Buxton would like to spend the rest of his career at Hillsborough.

The 30-year-old right back’s contract expires next year but he wants to stay.

He has spent five and a half happy years with the Owls since joining them from Stoke and has an ambition to be in a Wednesday side that is challenging for promotion to the Premier League.

“I enjoy it here, I like living in the area and I enjoy playing in front of a big turnout of supporters every week,” he said.

“I want to try and play here as long as I can and hopefully I can progress with the club towards the end of my career.

“I’m always working hard to progress, I’ve had a few injuries which obviously set you back but now I want to enjoy the rest of my career and hopefully that is here with Wednesday.

“Hopefully I can be here as the club one day makes a push for the Premier League before I stop playing, and that’s my main aim.”

He is also relishing tonight’s test against QPR:

“They have some of the best players in the league, players who have played for years in the Premier League.

“They’re coming off the back of a good result (a 3-0 win against Yeovil) and so are we.

“There’s no reason why we can’t beat them. They haven’t been as dominant as people expected but it will be a tough challenge, and we are up for it.

“We’re going to have to be at the top of our game to get a result.”
