Sheffield Wednesday defender Lewis Buxton is close to a first team comeback as he nears full recovery from a knee injury picked up in pre-season training.

The 30 year old will make a return to full trianing tomorrow and is likely to then play in the under 21 game against Nottingham Forest next week.

Should Buxton, who was injured at the begining of pre-season after a collision with team mate Paul Corry, come through that, the right back will come into contention for a place in the Owls squad.

Head coach Stuart Gray said: “Hopefully he might get a run-out in the under 21 game with Forest next Tuesday. Fingers crossed he will stay back this time.”

Meanwhile, Sam Hutchinson, who came off suffering from a back injury in Tuesday’s draw with Millwall, is regarded by Gray as “50/50” to be fit in time to face Middlesbrough on Saturday, while Kieran Lee is definitely out.

The midfielder was forced off in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Derby with a long standing groin injury
