Dave Jones insists that talk of a Hillsborough takeover has failed to distract the players and management from their preparations for the new season.

The Owls manager also said, tongue in cheek: “As long as I keep my job, I am alright.”

Speaking after last night’s 1-0 win over Rangers, he added: “It doesn’t affect the lads, in any way whatsoever. Everybody is talking about it. It is going to be a topic.

“I am sure whether it comes to fruition or it doesn’t, the chairman will tell me at the right time what it is. He has never kept me out of the loop on anything so I wouldn’t think he’d keep me out of the loop on something like this.”

Chairman Milan Mandaric confirmed yesterday that former Birmingham director Sammy Yu is part of a Chinese consortium who have shown interest in the club but there are also other parties who have shown interest and a deal is nowhere near completion.

Jones plans talks with Mandaric on the possibility of signing trialist centre half Kamil Zayatte, who played last night. The Owls boss said it was a good work-out in a great atmosphere.
