Rafa Floro is on course to add to his football education with an international final and a game against Brazil.

It is only at Under 20 level but Portugal’s progress in the annual tournament in Toulon, France, will be seen by Owls boss Stuart Gray as valuable experience for the young left back.

Floro’s potential was a major factor in the decision to extend his contract by a further year though he was given only two starts in his first season at Hillsborough.

Gray has regarded him as more of a member of the development squad than a serious first-team challenger but that could change if the 20-year-old makes quick strides, especially as Reda Johnson has been released.

Floro is with the Portugal squad who have won all three of their Group A games so far in Toulon and need a point against second-place France tonight to reach the final on Sunday in Avignon.

In the other half of the tournament, Group B, Brazil are top with a 100 per cent record from three games, including a 2-1 result against England, and finish the group stage with a game against Qatar tomorrow.

Floro played for Portugal in 2-0 and 3-1 wins against Mexico and Chile respectively; he then did not figure in a 4-1 victory against China but is expected to come back in for the France match.

Brazil’s squad includes £27 million-rated centre half Marquinos, of Paris St Germain.
