Bannan, named in the Championship PFA Team of the Year last campaign, found the back of the net three times in his first year at Hillsborough.

And the Scotland international, who scored a long range piledriver in Wednesday’s friendly at Alfreton Town last week, believes he has got a lot more goals in his locker.

He told The Star: “I hope my strike against Alfreton was the first of many.

“I had a good first season at the club but I didn’t score enough goals.

“Hopefully this season I can score more goals to help the team.

“I set a target last year but didn’t reach it last year. I would like to get 10 goals. Anywhere around eight or 10 would be good.”

Bannan has clocked up 41 appearances in Owls colours. His ability has been mainly utilised on the left flank but Carlos Carvalhal has deployed him in central midfield throughout pre-season.

“I don’t mind playing wide left or right but I think I’m more effective when I’m in the middle,” he acknowledged. “In some games, you need to play in different positions.

“As long as I’m in the team, I’m happy.”
