SHEFFIELD Wednesday have swooped to sign Portuguese midfielder Diogo Amado on a two-year deal, writes Dom Howson.
Subject to international clearance, the 22-year-old has moved to Hillsborough on a free transfer after leaving Uniao Leiria.
Amado, a former Portugal Under 21 international, becomes the Owls sixth summer signing. Manager Dave Jones has already snapped up left back Joe Mattock, centre half Anthony Gardner, right back Kieran Lee, striker Chris Maguire and goalkeeper Chris Kirkland. Jones remains hopeful of signing fellow Portuguese player Paulo Ragula.
Lagos-born Amado is set to link up with compatriot Jose Semedo and is looking forward to beginning a new chapter in his career with the Championship newcomers.
He said: “I am incredibly excited about this move. I know Sheffield Wednesday from Portugal and they are a big, big club.”
