Sheffield Wednesday ace set to stay after Clarets swoop

BURNLEY'S £3 million signing of Scotland forward Steven Fletcher looks set to end speculation about Marcus Tudgay's future.

The Clarets had been linked with Fetcher and Owls star Tudgay in their search for a striker but have now broken their club record in landing Fletcher from Hibernian.

Wednesday had given a hostile reception to reports that Burnley wanted Tudgay and insisted that a bid had not been received from Turf Moor.

Manager Brian Laws sought clarification from Burnley and believed that there was an attempt going on to unsettle the player.

He told The Star: "I told them he's not for sale, and if he was we'd be asking a lot more than what they were allegedly offering."

There was also a claim from Tudgay's agent, former Owls player Darryl Powell, that if there was an opportunity to go to Burnley then the player would like to speak to them as it was a possible chance to play in the Premier League.

Fletcher's signing seems to put an end to the affair, and the Owls will expect Tudgay to complete the formalities of his new three-year contract.

The new deal was agreed in May and it was decided the paperwork would be completed this week when the player returned from holiday.
