ASSISTANT manager Chris Evans is backing Arsenal loanee Sanchez Watt to make a major impact at Hillsborough.

Watt has yet to make an appearance since joining Sheffield Wednesday on a temporary basis from the Premier League giants at the end of last month.

Owls chief Gary Megson opted to leave the youngster out of the clash with Leyton Orient because he could only name five loan players in his squad. League rules state five is the maximum who can take part and Megson selected Stephen Bywater, James Tavernier, Miguel Llera, Danny Batth and Ben Marshall.

Watt was also barred from playing in the FA Cup last week by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who does not want the forward cup-tied.

However, the 20-year-old is in contention to play at Oldham Athletic tomorrow.

Evans said: “Sanchez has been great in training. He is young, got good pace and has got a goal in him. He can continue to learn his trade here. I believe the manager and the players at this club can help make him better.

“This is a great opportunity for Sanchez to continue his footballing education.

“He went on loan to Leeds last season and played quite a few games for them so he knows what league football is about and I’m sure he is going to make a positive contribution to the team.”
