Rob sniffs at risk of nose break No 13
Ready to return: Rob Jones is set to start in the cup
CAPTAIN courageous Rob Jones has played down fears over his fitness ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s FA Cup second round clash with Aldershot.
The giant defender has broken his nose 12 times in his career and had minor surgery on it earlier this month in a bid to fix the problem.
Indeed, the knock kept Jones, who had a successful loan spell with the Owls last season before arriving on a permanent basis in the summer, out of the Morecambe tie.
“I’m not concerned about breaking it again because I know I will so there is no point worrying about it,” he told The Star. “That’s me done on operations. I’m not having another one. If it breaks again, it breaks again. I will have to deal with it. Only if I felt it was going to impede me would I have another op.”
The 32-year-old added: “Centre-halves get bangs on their noses week in week out. It is part and parcel of the way I play. I’m sure it will happen again until the time comes when I retire from football.
“I had a mini operation on it a couple of weeks ago and it is just something that I have got to learn to deal with.”
Jones started at Tranmere Rovers but he missed the home fixture with Leyton Orient last weekend after picking up his fifth caution of the season at Prenton Park, meaning he had to serve a one-match suspension.
