Connor Wickham earned a point for Sheffield Wednesday at Charlton Athletic after they had fallen a goal behind just after half time at the Valley.
Wickham was fit enough to start up front alongside Chris Maguire, who was recalled from a loan spell at Coventry City.
And Maguire had a chance to put the Owls in front but dragged his shot wide.
With both sides hoping to finish the year on a high the play was very cagey with neither taking many risks.
The Addicks didn’t have a shot on target during the first half while Wednesday’s three, all from Wickham, were all dealt with by Ben Alnwick.
However, it didn’t take long after the interval for the home team to go in front.
Wednesday were caught cold down their left wing and from Lawrie Wilson’s cross Dale Stephens fired past Chris Kirkland in the 47th minute.
But it was that man Wickham - whose loan spell from Sunderland ends at the turn of the year - who volleyed home from close range to equalise just before the hour mark.
And Wickham nearly put the Owls in front but headed just over from Jacques Maghoma’s cross.
Owls sub Atdhe Nuhiu was possibly unlucky not to win a penalty when he tumbled in the box and twice Wednesday went close as they piled on the pressure.
Charlton had a great chance to snatch the win when Simon Church burst through, but he shot over.
