SHEFFIELD Wednesday will today receive a pre-derby boost when David Prutton returns to training.

The midfield player was an ever-present in the league until he injured a thigh in training and missed the last three games.

His recovery makes the competition for places even hotter as Reda Johnson and Liam Palmer also join in today after missing the 3-1 victory against Chesterfield because of international duty.

The Owls had six players unavailable for the Hillsborough derby because of injuries: Prutton, Nicky Weaver, Jon Otsemobor, Daniel Jones, Danny Uchechi and Ryan Lowe.

The two internationals are back from their trips. Palmer played full games for Scotland Under-21s in a 5-1 win against Luxembourg last Thursday and a 2-2 draw with Austria in Paisley on Monday.

Johnson played in Benin’s final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, a 1-0 defeat against Rwanda on Sunday that left his country bottom of Group H.

Prutton’s all-clear improves squad strength but does not guarantee him an instant call-up to central midfield, with the team in winning form and Chris Lines having earned praise from boss Gary Megson.

At left-back, Megson faces a choice between Johnson and Julian Bennett.

Besides the team’s victorious run, Lines has celebrated the birth of a daughter. He posted on Twitter: “What a weekend this has been.”
