Pearson backs ‘talented’ wing star Marshall to blossom at Foxes
BEN Marshall is in line to make his Leicester City debut tonight against Middlesbrough after arriving on a permanent basis from Stoke City.
The winger, who scored five goals in 22 appearances in a six-month loan stint at Sheffield Wednesday earlier on this term, joined the Foxes in a £750,000 deal which could rise to £1m depending on appearances and promotion to the Premier League.
The 20-year-old agreed a three-and-a-half year deal at the King Power Stadium after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.
Salford-born Marshall, who’s contract was set to expire at Stoke at the end of the season, failed to play a first-team game for the Potters.
Former Owls great Nigel Pearson, now manager of the Foxes, said: “Ben is a talented player and we are delighted he has joined the club.
“I have spoken recently about the need to address the balance of the squad and Ben will help us to do that. He is happy playing on either the left or right flank, has settled in straight away and gives us more attacking options.
“Ben comes to us with a good footballing pedigree, having worked within the Manchester United and Crewe Alexandra youth set-ups, and has shown the desire to move his career forward by joining us from a Premier League club.
“We are all looking forward to seeing him in action.”
Another former Wednesday loan player, James Tavernier, has moved to MK Dons on loan until the end of the season from Newcastle United. Bradford-born Tavernier, a right-back by trade but equally comfortable at centre-back, helped Wednesday keep five clean sheets in eight appearances, including one in the FA Cup victory over West Ham.
