Owls hit by Tudgay blow
WEDNESDAY'S top league scorer, Marcus Tudgay, is expected to be sidelined for between two and four weeks.
He is set to miss tomorrow's home match against Plymouth and Saturday's trip to Crystal Palace, at least.
The striker has a groin injury which he picked up at Barnsley last Tuesday, and he had to sit out the 3-1 defeat at Birmingham on Saturday.
The Owls hope for better news on other injured players. James O'Connor (hamstring) and Mark Beeves (hip) will be the subject of checks ahead of tomorrow's match, and Brian Laws will hope that Richard Wood (groin) and Deon Burton (ankle) came through the St Andrew's contests without ill effect.
Wood got through 90 minutes though he had been doubtful until just before the game, and Burton was used only as a sub because there were concerns about an injury that he suffered at Barnsley.
Wednesday have lost Jimmy Smith for three games, barring his red card on Saturday being rescinded.
Referee Paul Taylor agreed to a request from Laws for him to take a second look at Smith's challenge on Birmingham right-back Stuart Parnaby, and the Owls have followed that with an official appeal to the FA.
A decision is expected from the FA tomorrow..
The Owls boss said: "When I saw it first hand, I wasn't sure. I've now watched it three times from different angles. I think it looked a bit harsh; he hasn't connected with the player above his chest; there was no malice in it; he's mistimed his jump."
Laws admitted: "We're running out of players."
Smith's red card was the Owls' third in their last three games. Although Jermaine Johnson returned on Saturday after a one-match ban, Tony McMahon has begun a three-match suspension and has been recalled by Middles-brough. However, there is chance he will a return .
Laws also said: "It's the first time we have lost two on the bounce this season. We have to respond against Plymouth."
