Owls eye derby tonic

WEDNESDAY manager Brian Laws believes that the Sheffield derby can provide his players with a perfect tonic.

The Owls are smarting after a 4-0 defeat at Plymouth. But they will go into the derby a week on Sunday still in the top 10, with an unbeaten home record and aiming to revel in the occasion.

"I've said to the players that they couldn't ask for a better game than this to come back to," said Laws

"We have an opportunity to overtake United and keep our good home run going.

"We have suffered three heavy away losses this season - but last year we lost eight of our first 10 games; we'd have snatched somebody's hand off this summer if they'd said we'd be in the top 10 with 15 points.

"We are on target. But we have to move on and improve as well."

The Owls have issued a reminder about derby ticket sales and made it clear that their fans do not need vouchers.

The sale policy was simplified in August, before tickets went on sale, and after talks between the club, South Yorkshire Police and the local Safety Advisory Group. Fans now need only to note that season ticket holders and members are able to buy one ticket.

The general sale period is open now, to other supporters registered on the club's database, which includes anyone who has bought tickets within the last two years, and they are eligible for two tickets each.

Postal applications for tickets cannot be made. Fans have to apply in person or by phone or internet.

The club is also urging fans to buy by phone or internet to avoid queuing in Hillsborough's Megastore.

Meanwhile, Geoff Sheard insists that his consortium's takeover bid remains on course.
