OWLS: Dons swoop for Tavernier

MK DONS completed a surprise beat-the-deadline signing of former Wednesday loan star James Tavernier but he was ineligible to face the Owls.

Dons have taken Newcastle right back Tavernier on loan for the rest of the season after Adam Smith was unexpectedly recalled by Spurs and joined Leeds.

Former Owls loan winger Ben Marshall has completed a move to Leicester as expected.

Stoke are believed to be receiving a fee of £750,000 plus a possible further £250,000 linked to appearances and Leicester winning promotion in his time with them.

Marshall has signed a three-year contract.

I thought Tavernier was awful defensively, always too far away from the winger. Against Huddersfield their winger was allowed two identical unchallenged crosses for two identical goals. Megson quite rightly moved him upfield where his positioning & willingness to take people on caused more problems to the opposition. Hopefully he will help MK to concede a few more goals. As for Ben, good luck to him. £0.75M is apparently ok for an ambitious Championship club which Mandaric expects us to be next season, so why miss out on such a good investment opportunity? A much better investment for Mandaric & a lot less than the two investment gifts that he allegedly gave to Harry Redknapp! As for that Karl Robinson. He was described as "admired by many" last season, but not by many outside his own club this season I suspect. UTFO!

Not a big deal. GM only took him when we were exposed at right back through injuries, and the fact that he couldn't keep his place there once LB and JO were fit leads me to conclude he was only a stop-gap for us. Good luck to him in the rest of his career. Pity about Ben, but two arguments for it being right for us not to buy him: 1) £1 million would be silly money to pay for a player in League One, and 2) you couldn't expect a player worth £1 million to choose an ambitious League One club over an ambitious Championship club. So, we've done the right thing, and so has he I reckon. Good luck to him, and we'll be fine without him.
