Owls Boss slams stars
Exeter City v Sheffield Wednesday.....Owls Migel Llera leaves the field with an head injury
GARY Megson is warning that Wednesday must improve on Saturday’s showing at Exeter or face a humbling at the hands of Stevenage for the second time tomorrow.
The Owls face the side who beat them 5-1 in September and gave Megson what he regards as a low point of his one-year reign.
“This is a hugely important game for us,” he said.
“They wiped the floor with us and if everything is exactly the same they’ll do it again. We have to step up to the plate, show a lot more intensity, a lot more honesty, and go and perform, because it’s a massive game now.”
Megson will today assess Miguel Llera, who has had stitches in a cut eye and had to go off during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat when the Owls were winning 1-0. He was replaced by Rob Jones. The Owls boss was strongly critical of some, unnamed members of his team.
“I say what I think,” he said. “When it’s good, I say it’s good; when it’s poor, I say it was poor, and that was. We needed to force the issue. It looked like the only way we might get a goal was through JJ or a set piece. JJ’s strike was fantastic. He looks a threat every time he gets the ball. But you’re not going to get the results you want with only one player playing as you would hope.
“Quite a few of ours have a spotlight on them now and they need to start shaping themselves.”
He accused some players of not showing enough energy or desire.
“They know what’s expected; we work on certain things, first and foremost is hard work, playing with enthusiasm and as if your life depended on it. We have some at the moment who are playing as if they’re doing us a favour.
“The opportunity was there for us against Exeter. Through neglect, we slung it away. People look at Ben Marshall; he was a class act and he changed things for us but we have players who are nowhere near how they were four weeks ago, and they have to get back to that very quickly. You can’t just ponce about and rest on your laurels. This club has got to be successful and get itself moving.”

Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 08:32 AMOne thing which always puzzles me We always have 10k+ attendance and yet we struggle financially and yet see teams with much poorer support able to sort us out Look at Exeter I see their attendance was 5555 almost a third of ours and yet they produce football of a quality good enough to take us to the cleaners And that applies to many other teams in this division Desperate for three points tonight Up the blue and whites

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 10:01 PMsorry Educated.. However.. I am always dubious of anyone who says they are 'impartial' but on the other hand secretive. Why would you keep your loyalties 'secretive'? ashamed? certainly untrutworthy in my book. If you can not be honest and open I will only doubt your ever word.. So , you are the Dim one..sonny..secretive and un trustworthy .. You are the weakest link.. Goodbye

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 09:23 PMAgree with OneDavidHirst, Quality football will never be our thing, Megson has not signed 1 player for his passing or football ability, we have signed big strong athletic players that will always look out of sorts if we are to play ourselves out if a hole....going back to Hammers in the Cup they rested their best players no cole, no green, no Nolan, no noble, need I go on...and Big SAMs teams are not renowned for their passing ability...Blackpool gave our 2nd team a proper footballing lesson, never has any Megson team ever played football...but if you check Mego's stats he's currently enjoying the best win % of his career 42% when I last looked...I say keep going as we have done....now is not a good time to change your team. To all of you that criticise our style with Megson as manager we might have some sucsess but don't think we will play nice attractive football in any league with him as boss, just ask any Bolton fans they didn't like how they played but you can't knock his results...

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 09:20 PMbig must win game tommorrow, then Chesterfield on Saturday, why oh why can't Wednesday defend set pieces i don't know, the 1st goal soley has to be with Steven Bywater for commanding the wall, it went to his left which is his priority to save it, fair enough it had gone to the rh side then yes the defence are 2 blame, the 2nd goal for Exeter was again Bywaters fault, he though oh yes it's going to go over the cross bar, but never even attempted to make sure, i hope Megson puts Weaver in goal on Tuesday night and give him a chance, don't worry about the Blunts they have Huddersfield 2 play and at the end of the night they will be licking their wounds, not like Wednesday who will prevail from their loss and go forth up into the Championship! W,T.I.D.

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 09:10 PMNo not yet saving that for may :-) but about Megson he does have a go at his player's maybe it's his way of coping but do it in private of the dressing room..it's not like you are fighting relegation (makes a change hey)haha.. so you need to instill confidence in them and he's going about it the wrong way...just my opinion right or wrong...anyway still like both to go up automatically,i know i take the micky and get carried away at times only natural but i never get abusive like some from both camps.. but i wish all this banter ws held in the top division not this pub league we're both in....maybe one day hey
