Owls' video nasty
WEDNESDAY'S strategy for the Sheffield derby will be influenced by the showing of a film of their 4-0 defeat at Plymouth.
Brian Laws has pointed out to his players the mistakes made in the way goals were conceded at Home Park.
But it was not solely a horror show: the DVD reinforces Laws's immediate post-match impression that Wednesday impressed in some other aspects of the game.
"The DVD shows that we had more possession than Plymouth, more shots and more corners.
"Yet the goals we gave away were so amateurish.
"We've put the players through seeing it again.
"But we don't dwell on that; we learn from what happened, move on and improve."
The first setback at Home Park was an unlucky own goal by Mark Beevers, who could nothing about it as an attempted clearance by Tommy Spurr rebounded off him into the net.
The Owls' defence was opened up in the build-up to the Pilgrims' second goal, and a misjudgement by keeper Lee Grant on a windy day led to the third one; the fourth was a free header from a corner after Spurr's withdrawal with an ankle injury left the team down to 10 men.
Wednesday had chances that could have put them back in the game, and Laws will remain confident that his squad potentially has plenty of firepower.
Only two goals have been conceded in five home League games, so the Owls will feel they are well capable of being much tighter in the derby than in last week's defeat.
With Jermaine Johnson away with Jamaica for their games against Mexico today and Honduras on Wednesday, three of his team-mates have been involved in a fight during a final practice match at the national stadium in Kingston.
The game was interrupted for about 20 minutes after Stoke City striker Ricardo Fuller and brothers Damion and Demar Stewart came to blows and had to be separated by other players.
The flare-up was sparked when Fuller took exception to a second hard tackle by Demar in the space of a few minutes.
Heated words were exchanged; punches were thrown and Damion went to the assistance of his brother.
Fuller walked off the field but then coach Theodore Whitmore held an impromptu meeting in the middle of the pitch. The match resumed with all the players taking part. Damion Stewart and Fuller appeared to have made up by the end.
