Fellow central defender Mark Beevers (fractured cheekbone) is out for the season, but full-back Lewis Buxton could return from a hamstring injury.

Southampton midfielder Oscar Gobern begins a three-match ban after his red card against Bournemouth.

Midfielders Morgan Schneiderlin (knee) and Guly do Prado (hamstring) will again miss out.

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins BBC Radio Solent: “We are looking forward to the game, we are back at St Mary’s so it should be a good crowd.

“Sheffield Wednesday are difficult opposition, they are a big club like ourselves and they have expectations to go up.

“Things haven’t gone as well as they would have liked this season but it’s a challenging fixture and one we are looking forward to.

“We’ve got a good squad of players who are all united as one, everyone is pulling in the same direction which is important going into this final quarter of the season.”
